A memorable trip to one of Alter Eco’s wonderful partner cooperatives, Acopagro, brought many stories and experiences back with the team to San Francisco. Team members visited the co-operative this year not only out of routine check-ins and visitation with the farmers, but also to contribute to the reforestation project with Pur Projet.

Alter Eco has always chosen the highest quality, sustainable ingredients for its consumers. We believe that GMOs are not compatible with our vision of quality or respect of the environment and producers. According to the Non-GMO Project, “Over 80 percent of all GMOs grown worldwide are engineered for herbicide tolerance. As a result, use of toxic herbicides, like Roundup, has increased 15 times since GMOs were introduced.”

Last night, Alter Eco was honored to receive the Acterra’s 2012 Business Environmental Award in the category of Small Business for its commitment to small-scale farmers and to sustainable and fair trade practices.
